People like me think of it as a blessing to have had Harriet Tubman to be know as the leader of the Underground Railroad. Harriet Tubman was a runaway slave from Maryland who became known as the "Moses of her people." Over the course of 10 years, and at great personal risk, she led hundreds of slaves to freedom along the Underground Railroad, a secret network of safe houses where runaway slaves could stay on their journey north to freedom. But, going with Harriet Tubman would mean serous consequences for you, her, and anyone who was with her.It was not easy for a slave or a run away slave. You would been forced to work dawn to dusk without a break and hardly any food or sleep. But, many slaves took the risk and were freed of hard labor.
Did you know that the person that watched the slaves to make sure that they did not leave
helped her many other slaves get away during the time that the owner was asleep?
